Fabricating dense micro-hole patterns in temperature-sensitive polymers
Did you know that high density micro-hole patterns can be generated in polymer foils with lasers?
Thin films with micrometer-small holes are in demand for a variety of applications, such as filters in environmental or medical technology. The short wavelength of UV ultrashort pulse laser radiation enables drilling of micrometer holes with high precision and minimal thermal impact. These properties allow for dense drilling patterns even in thermally sensitive materials like thin polymer foils. The process takes 2 ms per hole in 12-15 µm thick polymer foils.
