    EU-MultiFlex: Machine Assembly

    May 10, 2023

    © Fraunhofer ILT, Aachen.

Multi-beam systems are a key technology to increase the total converted laser power and significantly boost productivity. Therefore, Fraunhofer ILT together with Pulsar Photonics has developed an USP multi-beam system in a roll-to-roll machine. The optical system generates 24 beamlets which are simultaneously deflected by 4 galvo-scanners to continuously structure electrode material of 300 mm bandwidth for efficient battery manufacturing.

  • Interference patterning on glass with sub-micrometre structure spacing.
    © Fraunhofer ILT, Aachen, Germany.

A new setup for Direct Laser Interference Patterning DLIP enables the functionalization of glass surfaces at sub-micro level. Tailored spatial periods with periodic patterns down to 200 nm show amazing optical effects for anti-counterfeiting without using color pigments or enable spatial alignment of cell elongation of pluripotent stem cells.

    EU-Multiflex

    August 12, 2022

Thin films with micrometer-small holes are in demand for a variety of applications, such as filters in environmental or medical technology. The short wavelength of UV ultrashort pulse laser radiation enables drilling of micrometer holes with high precision and minimal thermal impact.

Scalable quantum processors based on trapped ions require novel trap designs which enhance the performance and reliability and increase the integrability for optical addressing. Nevertheless, a simple yet precise fabrication must be ensured. In the project “IQuAn” we demonstrated the fabrication of an ion trap with 3D structures in fused silica using our two-step process Selective Laser-induced Etching SLE.
